Porsche Expands Panamera Lineup with Two New Plug-In Hybrid Models

German automaker responds to demand for efficient and dynamic E-Hybrid powertrains

Porsche, the renowned German automaker, has announced the addition of two new plug-in hybrid models to its Panamera lineup. The Panamera 4 E-Hybrid and Panamera 4S E-Hybrid join the previously unveiled Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid as part of Porsche’s efforts to offer a broader range of electrified options. With hybrids gaining popularity in various markets, Porsche aims to meet the significant demand for efficient and dynamic E-Hybrid powertrains.

Improved Performance and Powertrain:

The Panamera 4 E-Hybrid combines a new hybrid system with a significantly revamped 2.9-liter V6-twin-turbo engine, delivering an output of 224 kW or 300 horsepower. The combined system boasts an impressive 346 kW or 463 hp, with a maximum torque of 479 lb.-ft. The acceleration from 0 to 60 mph takes just 3.9 seconds, and the top track speed reaches 174 mph.

On the other hand, the Panamera 4S E-Hybrid features a 2.9-liter, six-cylinder engine with a slightly higher performance output of 260 kW or 348 hp. The total system power reaches 400 kW or 536 hp, with a maximum torque of 553 lb.-ft. This enables the Panamera 4S E-Hybrid to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds and reach a top track speed of 180 mph.

Enhanced Charging Speed and Battery Capacity:

Both models offer a higher charging speed and improved throttle response. The new battery has a gross capacity of 25.9 kWh, representing a 45 percent increase compared to its predecessors. An 11-kW onboard AC charger can charge the battery in as little as two hours under the right conditions. Additionally, the new electric motor, which supplements the gas engine, is more powerful than the one used in the previous generation.

Intelligent Power Management:

The Panamera 4 and 4S E-Hybrid models come equipped with intelligent power management systems. When turned on, they start in fully electric E-Power mode. Once the battery’s state of charge drops below a certain minimum value, the system automatically switches to Hybrid Auto mode, which optimizes the powertrain based on the driving situation. The smart navigation system provides route information to further enhance the drivetrain strategy, optimizing energy usage in city driving conditions.

Unique Drive Modes:

The new models offer two additional drive modes: E-Hold and E-Charge. In E-Hold mode, the battery’s current state of charge is preserved, while in E-Charge mode, the combustion engine charges the battery to 80 percent at speeds above 34 mph. Sport and Sport Plus modes adjust the targeted state of charge to 20 and 30 percent, respectively, for improved battery life without compromising performance.

Conclusion:

Porsche’s expansion of the Panamera lineup with the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid and Panamera 4S E-Hybrid demonstrates the automaker’s commitment to meeting the growing demand for efficient and dynamic E-Hybrid powertrains. With improved performance, enhanced charging capabilities, and intelligent power management systems, these new models offer a compelling option for customers seeking a blend of electrification and performance. As Porsche continues to innovate and broaden its range of hybrid and electric vehicles, it aims to cater to a diverse set of customer preferences and contribute to the ongoing evolution of the automotive industry.
