In the world of car enthusiasts, there’s something undeniably special about owning a vehicle with a rich history. Boon Yang, the proud owner of a 1998 Acura Integra GS-R, understands this sentiment all too well. Having purchased the car from his uncle, Boon had the unique advantage of knowing every detail about its past. This knowledge, coupled with his passion for customization, led him on a journey to transform this once humble family car into a jaw-dropping showpiece.
Like many first-time car owners, Boon’s initial modifications were modest due to budget constraints. However, he was determined to make the Integra his own. Over the years, he learned valuable lessons through trial and error, realizing the importance of doing things right the first time. In 2015, after struggling with paint matching and feeling the need for a proper refresh, Boon had the car sprayed in factory Milano Red. While it wasn’t a show-quality finish, it served its purpose for the next few years.
Under the hood, the Integra boasts an impressive B18C1 engine that has undergone significant upgrades. Hasport engine mounts provide stability, while CP pistons and Manley rods fortify the bottom end. A Skunk2 intake manifold, GoAutoworks’ top mount turbo manifold, and a Precision 5858 turbocharger take the engine’s performance to new heights. With 475 horsepower and 321 lb-ft of torque, this 1.8-liter powerhouse is a force to be reckoned with.
After seven years of ownership, Boon decided it was time to give his Integra the finish it truly deserved. Stepping away from the factory color, he opted for Ferrari’s Corsa Red and applied a JDM face lift in the process. The transformation included a rare Mugen front bumper, side skirts, and a Gen. 2 rear wing. A vented FRP hood and Rando Sports rear bumper completed the revamp, giving the car an unmistakable presence on the streets.
To complement the car’s stunning exterior, Boon upgraded the GS-R’s 4×100 lug pattern to a 5-lug Type R conversion. NSX calipers, StopTech rotors, and fresh brake lines from Chase Bays’ brake line tuck kit ensure optimal stopping power. And what better way to complete the look than with Mugen’s legendary bronze MF10 wheels? The combination of the high-end aero treatment and the iconic wheels elevates the car’s appearance to a whole new level.
With 12 years of ownership and 24 years of involvement with the Integra chassis, one might assume Boon is nearing the end of his journey with the car. However, his passion for improvement and the pursuit of the next change keeps him going. While he acknowledges that he may be approaching the end, he can never truly say he’s finished with the car. What he has now is more than he could have ever imagined, a testament to his dedication and love for his prized possession.
